If you’re in the process of decluttering your home, donate your pre-used items to an organisation in need. From charity shops to local community groups, there are a variety of options available for those looking to donate furniture and household items in Christchurch.
Before you donate furniture to charity, you should do a few things. First, ensure that the items you're donating are in good, usable condition.
While many charities will accept gently used items, they cannot accept broken, dirty, or otherwise unusable items.
It's also a good idea to check with the charity you're interested in donating to, as they may have specific guidelines for acceptable items. Additionally, consider if the furniture you're donating is still useful and in demand, as some items may need to be more appropriate for the needs of the charity or the community they serve.
Christchurch has many options for donating furniture, clothing, electronics, and household items. Here is a list of places to take good quality used items:
Habitat for Humanity has two ReStore locations in Christchurch located in Burnside and Sydenham. They accept new, gently used and upcycled items for donation including furniture, appliances, clothing, books, building materials and more. Donations are sold back to the community for a small profit while some donations are used to help families who are in immediate need of furniture, curtains and blankets for their homes.
If you’re unable to drop off your items, ReStore can arrange pickup from your home. However, area limits do apply.
